Summary
Chesapeake Lighting, the preeminent lighting representative in the Baltimore/Washington DC market, has an immediate opening for a Lighting Controls Estimator. This position will expand the rapidly growing Lighting Controls Department of our company. A successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating project requirements and producing precise cost estimates for commercial or residential lighting systems. They will review blueprints, specifications, and riser diagrams to determine material quantities, low-voltage control hardware, and programming/labor expenses to submit competitive, profitable project bids. This position is a foundation to establish a rewarding career in the rapidly expanding LED lighting industry.

Core Responsibilities
Plan & Spec Analysis: Interpret complex electrical plans, reflective ceiling plans, and architectural specifications to identify lighting control components like occupancy sensors, dimmers, and control panels.
Quantity Takeoffs: Accurately quantify all necessary devices, relay panels, power packs, and specialized cables (e.g., Cat 5 or proprietary control cables).
Vendor & Manufacturer Coordination: Request, review, and negotiate pricing from manufacturers and factory sales representatives.
Bid Preparation: Calculate total project costs (materials, labor, and programming) and prepare comprehensive, timely proposals for contractors or clients.
RFI Submissions: Identify discrepancies between drawings and specifications, resolving them by collaborating with our outside sales and specification teams.
Scope Review: Assist project managers and sales teams during the project handoff stage by detailing specific inclusions, exclusions, and scope changes.
Preferred Key Qualifications & Skills
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of low-voltage systems, lighting control strategies, daylight harvesting, and building energy codes (e.g., Title 24, ASHRAE).
Reading Blueprints: Proficiency in interpreting construction documents, architectural sketches, and control system risers.
Software Proficiency: Experience with electrical estimating software (e.g., OASIS), as well as blueprint reading platforms like Bluebeam Revu.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous eye for counting devices and identifying code-compliance issues or manufacturer-specific requirements.
Communication Skills: Ability to interact with contractors, vendors, and internal teams clearly and professionally.
Experience: Experience in estimating and/or the electrical industry preferred.

Summary Chesapeake Lighting, a leading manufacturer’s representative for commercial and industrial lighting and controls, is currently seeking a Lighting Controls Service Technician for a project management / customer service position, with focus on commercial lighting controls applications to support our Lighting Controls division. This person will work closely with our Sales, Field Techs, and Project Management Teams, and support the efforts of our outside Salespeople by assisting in the commissioning of our lighting controls systems. This position will also be trained to provide technical support and troubleshooting of our lighting controls products.
Job Description
Review drawings and specifications to understand lighting controls requirements
Troubleshooting and commissioning of installed systems.
Serve as a technical resource to staff as well as customers
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of (1) year experience as a field technician
Ability to read construction drawings
Understanding of basic electrical distribution
Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Advanced qualifications a bonus, but not required
Knowledge of wireless communications protocols such as ZigBee, Wi-Fi, IR, etc.
Familiarity with control theory technical education in Low Voltage Controls, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Technology, Wireless Communications and Radio Frequency (RF) Technology, or equivalent technical experience.
Advanced computer skills including AutoCAD 2D, or Blue Beam. Ability to quickly learn proprietary configuration software for various systems
Basic understanding of computer networking
Familiarity with automation systems
Experience with DMX distribution
Knowledge of Industrial and other control systems
Knowledge of energy codes and sustainable lighting practices

Job Description

Maintain and renew stock quotes for electrical distributors.
Basic Qualifications
High School diploma with some college preferred
Previous experience in a customer service / sales environment
Must be a team player with the ability to build strong working relationships
Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook
